You are not alone if you're experiencing:

1. Constant Self-Criticism

Harsh inner dialogue or “body checking” throughout the day

2. Emotional Distress

Feelings of shame, guilt, or disgust toward your body

3. Perfectionism and Control

Believing you must “fix”,  “earn” self-worth through appearance

4. Disconnection from your Body

Avoiding mirrors, photos, or certain clothes

5. Social and Relationship Struggles

Comparing yourself to peers or influencers, avoiding social events

6. Identity and Self-Worth Confusion

Tying value or success to looks rather than character or actions

What are MBSR and MBSR for Teens?

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an evidence-based program developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn to help people manage stress, pain, and difficult emotions through mindfulness practice. The 8-week course combines guided meditation, gentle movement, and reflective inquiry to cultivate greater awareness and resilience in daily life. Participants learn to respond to life’s challenges with presence, clarity, and compassion rather than reactivity or avoidance.

MBSR-T, created by Gina Biegel, is an adapted version of the standard adult Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, specifically designed for teens,. The main differences are that MBSR-T uses shorter, formal mindfulness practices to suit younger attention spans, and the content is tailored to address the developmental and modern-day stressors faced by teens.  Through this program, teens can cultivate self-compassion and acceptance, develop awareness of thoughts and emotions, build emotional regulation skills, reduce stress and reactivity, increase focus and attention, improve relationships and communication, and support overall well-being and resilience

About Me and How I Can Help

Welcome to embodyKindness!

My name is Liz Wood and I'm a qualified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher, having completed professional training and supervised practice in the evidence-based program developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. This includes teaching mentorship, meditation retreats, and ongoing study to ensure the program is taught with integrity and care. Most importantly, I maintain my own regular mindfulness practice, allowing me to guide participants from direct personal experience with presence, compassion, and authenticity.

Through the 8-week MBSR and MBSR-Teens programs, I help people struggling with negative feelings about their appearance find more peace and kindness within themselves. My own journey with body and appearance-related self-judgment deeply informs the way I teach. Through meditation and mindfulness, I discovered how to meet my thoughts and emotions with self-compassion instead of criticism — and that shift changed how I relate to myself.

In my classes, I offer a supportive space where we learn to quiet our inner critic, connect with our body, and cultivate genuine self-acceptance. We learn to truly embody kindness towards ourselves.
